About Gentian Baptist Church
Every church needs to have a purpose statement that answers the question, “why do we exist?” At Gentian Baptist Church, we filter every idea, program, and budget request through our purpose statement. If what we plan doesn’t help us meet our purpose, then we don’t do it. Our purpose at Gentian Baptist Church is summarized in a single statement: "To glorify God by bringing people in to an active membership and training them to demonstrate God's love to others."
Bible study
The small-group experience was essential to the early New Testament church. This was a time of Bible study, fellowship, prayer, and caring for one another. Today, our Sunday School duplicates these functions. Sunday School is much more than a program, more than a class, more than a fellowship, and more than just an organization. It is a living ministry of Jesus Christ. From birth to senior adult, married or single, there is a small-group experience waiting for you.
Worship
Gentian offers three weekly opportunities for worship and praise to God our Father. Each service is designed to lift up the name of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The services consist of blending contemporary and traditional styles of music and singing. Also, the elements of the service are to help draw you the participant closer to the One who deserves our worship.
There are other special worship times throughout the year that create an atmosphere of celebration, reverence, and challenge. These are centered around Christian holidays such as Christmas, Easter, and other special calendar events.
One element that is open throughout all worship events is the partipants involved in prayer. Prayer is central to our communication to God, and to our worship.
Everyone is invited to get involved in prayerfully worshipping the one true God.
Worship: "to glorify God"
Everything we strive to do at Gentian is for the express purpose of bringing glory to our Heavenly Father. Worshipping God is more than what we do in a service, it includes all our efforts in evangelism, fellowship, discipleship, and ministry.
Evangelism: "by bringing people in"
The first way we worship God is through the extension of His love to those outside of a personal relationship with His Son Jesus Christ. This act of worship is in fulfillment of the Great Commission, Matthew 28:19-20.
Fellowship: "to an active membership"
Once we bring people in, it is our purpose to provide a loving atmosphere of Christian fellowship where anyone can take an active part in the body of Christ.
Discipleship: "training them"
Those involved in the fellowship of believers are offered practical, relevant training that will enable each member to live out their faith in daily practice.
Ministry: "to demonstrate God’s love to others"
Finally, it is our ultimate goal for every member to be a minister. By training members to demonstrate God’s love to others, we continue in the process of advancing the kingdom of God.
